One of our contractors popped into our office to see us. During our conversation, he mentioned that he would not be able to work through parts of October. He said he would be abroad supporting local charity Al-Fikr.

Al-Fikr strive to achieve the betterment of communities through any means necessary, with a focus on initiatives targeted specifically at the most vulnerable in society. They work together with their local community in Milton Keynes, as well as communities in other countries. Al-Fikr states that their project is “not bound by geographical location, ethnicity, colour, gender or religious boundaries”. In other words, they help anyone and everyone they can. They have undertaken a huge range of projects in all kinds of locations.

Al-Fikr’s Work

In areas such as rural Tanzania, Pakistan and India, the local women must search for water – this can take up to five hours of each day, and the water is often unsafe to drink. To reduce their journey times, Al-Fikr set up hand water pumps in the local areas.

Similarly, Al-Fikr also set up water wells throughout Asia and Africa. Each well can support up to 200 families – that’s over 1,000 people in total. To combat water-borne disease, the wells are dug very deep so that the earth’s natural filtration system removes the impurities. This really works wonders for those living in some of the driest places in the world.

Al-Fikr also works closely with disabled people – providing wheelchairs and crutches, as well as companionship and entertainment through the organisation of various recreational activities. They also provide education, career advice and support and items required for healthcare.

The charity has also recently opened a soup kitchen in Pakpattan, which is located near the city of Lahore. Local widows, disabled, elderly individuals and orphans in the area have priority. Currently, they open every other day – with plans to open daily once they have the funds.

Closer to home, Al-Fikr works with the local homeless population handing out hot food, hygiene and first aid kits and spare clothing.

What We Achieved

Ajaz is off to Pakistan to provide support to those most in need and will be helping to build water wells and distribute food in the community.

As a profit-making company, we feel it is our duty to support those in need. Therefore, we also decided to do something. We made a contribution to the funds in the hope that it helps with the project.

Good luck Ajaz – and well done!
